Blog 3 rough draft

http://www.scaryforkids.com/pics/haunted-palace.jpg

I choosed this poem " The Haunted Palace" by Edgar Allan Poe because i wanted a scary, supernatural poem.Something i knew could relate to my english class topic.Edgar Allan Poe is known for his work of supernatural. If its not his spooky poems its definitely his stories that show his work of supernatural. The poem itself seems very dark and mentions spirits as well as death. It contains tone as well as symbolism.

The word Tone is the quality of something that shows or expresses the attitude and presuppositions of the author. In the poem "The Haunted Palace" by Edgar Allan Poem the tone of the poem seems very dark, gloomy as you continue throughout the poem.In the beginning it gives off the tone of something positive with mentioning bright colors how the valley is at its greenest and even angels.Later throughout the poem he mentions death and spirits. " But evil things in robes of sorrow, assailed the monarach's high estate" the tone here is evil,as well as mysterious.

Symbolism is giving meaning or character to literature.Edgar Allan used symbolism in his poem in different forms. He mentions alliteration, simile and much more with lines such as " Banners yellow, glorious, golden,on its roof did floot and flow"," while, like a ghostly rapid river, through the pale door a hideous throng rush out forever".He is using nature and objects to compare and describe something murky." The Haunted Palace symbolizes death, and evil doing all within a palace while a king use to rule a goverment of monarachy.

In conclusion the poem brings to the reader a feeling of darkness a curiosity of what might of been done to the king, why are the spirits still wondering his palace, what was the evil that roamed his palace.Edgar brings forth to his readers a mix of emotions, understanding throughout this poem.A reader might understand it as a positive poem and others might read and understand it as something dark, spooky. He gives his readers two sides of understanding his poem but at the same time a pleasure in reading his work.He mentions tone and symbolism that with each reader might be a different meaning to.

Blog 2 Poetry " The Haunted Palace"

The Haunted Palace

by: Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849)

In the greenest of our valleys
By good
angels tenanted,
Once a fair and stately palace—
Radiant palace—reared its head.
In the monarch Thought's dominion—
It stood there!
Never seraph spread a pinion
Over fabric half so fair!

Banners yellow, glorious, golden,
On its roof did float and flow,
(This—all this—was in the olden
Time long ago),
And every gentle air that dallied,
In that sweet day,
Along the ramparts plumed and pallid,
A winged odor went away.

Wanderers in that happy valley,
Through two luminous windows, saw
Spirits moving musically,
To a lute's well-tunëd law,
Bound about a throne where, sitting
(Porphyrogene!)
In state his glory well befitting,
The ruler of the realm was seen.

And all with pearl and ruby glowing
Was the fair palace door,
Through which came flowing,
flowing, flowing,
And sparkling evermore,
A troop of Echoes, whose sweet duty
Was but to sing,
In voices of surpassing beauty,
The wit and
wisdom of their king.

But evil things, in robes of sorrow,
Assailed the monarch's high estate.
(Ah, let us mourn!—for never morrow
Shall dawn upon him desolate !)
And round about his
home the glory
That blushed and bloomed,
Is but a dim-remembered story
Of the old time entombed.

And travellers, now, within that valley,
Through the red-litten windows see
Vast forms, that move fantastically
To a discordant melody,
While, like a ghastly rapid river,
Through the pale door
A hideous throng rush out forever
And laugh—but
smile no more.

Google engine source, Poem- "The haunted place by Edgar Allan Poe"

I choose the site www.blackcatpoems.com because from just the opening site it seemed to be focused on spooky maybe even Halloween poems.I was interested in finding a site that could display supernatural poems from authors known for their work.Such as the author Edgar Allan Poe whom is known for his work of supernatural.I was content to see that the site was useful in giving me a large variety or supernatural poems as well as authors. It was interesting to see the poems that were written in the same or even different time line have such a wide change of vocabulary.
The Poem "The Haunted Palace" by Edgar Allan Poe is mentioning a Palace,a home that once many people lived in or visited. It was lite in bright yellow golden colors and filled with happiness. The Palace itself seemed old but intact with the same bright colors. How well taken care of it was.Allan mentions angels in the beginning of the poem and how peaceful it is around the palace."The Haunted Palace" talks about death and how spirits were proceeding and even a king was seen. The palace was being ruled by a monarchy government. It seems as if someone from outside was looking into the palace and viewed all through just two windows.
It seems as much was lost. The king himself, his memory was lost.He and the other spirits move around the palace and even rushes out the palace doors. At first they move with a musical flow but at the end the happiness leaves on without pleasure. As if they stood to live as they did throughout the castle as when their king lived, till the very end of when their king had died.Something evil must have carried on throughout the castle for something dreadful to happen.
Maybe it was the passing of the king or what caused the death of the king. The Lost and even the evil in the air brought sorrow throughout the castle. The members wanted to mourn at the moment it occurred instead of later alone. It all seemed as a memory of better times that were left covered. The spirits leave and maybe even the memories leave with them of the king as well as the kings memory leaves with him during his death.
